About the Role

Bolton College is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Science Lecturer with a specialism in Biology to teach across BTEC Applied Science programmes at Levels 1-3. There may also be opportunities to contribute to Access to Higher Education (Open Awards) programmes.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging learning experiences that help students develop scientific knowledge, practical laboratory skills, and confidence in their studies. The role involves working with both 16-18-year-old learners and adult students, supporting them to achieve their qualifications and progress to higher education or employment.

Please note: A recognised teaching qualification is an essential requirement for this role. Applications from candidates who do not hold a recognised teaching qualification will not be considered.

Key Duties

  • Prepare and deliver high-quality lessons across BTEC Applied Science Levels 1-3
  • Teach Biology-related topics including cell biology, genetics, microbiology, physiology, and laboratory science
  • Contribute to Access to Higher Education (Open Awards) programmes where required
  • Plan and deliver practical laboratory activities in accordance with health and safety regulations
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Support learners with coursework, assignments, and examination preparation
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and achievement
  • Maintain accurate learner records and assessment documentation
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Applied Science, or a related scientific discipline
  • A recognised teaching qualification at Level 3 or above, such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DET, DTLLS, or an equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching BTEC Applied Science programmes at Levels 1-3
  • Strong subject knowledge across Biology and related scientific disciplines
  • Experience delivering practical laboratory sessions and maintaining safe working practices
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills
  • Experience assessing learner progress and providing effective feedback
  • A commitment to supporting learner achievement and progression

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience delivering Access to Higher Education programmes
  • Experience teaching within a Further Education college environment
  • An Enhanced DBS Certificate registered with the DBS Update Service
